ALLEGED CONSERVATIVE TEXAS BUDGET CONTAINS NO CUTS

Texas out of control spending, government job growth and general waste are probably destined to continue unabated if the so called “Conservative Texas Budget” touted  HERE by the Texas Public Policy Foundation is any indication. The conservative budget offers on CUTS of any kind, no suggestion to cut any agency for the Texas roster of bloated government , no suggestion of reducing the count of Texas government employees per capita 10,000 population which already exceeds that of California.

No, actually the very word CUT does not even appear in the report. They do seen to have adopted the psuedo conservative call for “spending restraint”, a time tested euphemism of the big government crown that really translates to an Admiral Farragut pleasing “Damn the torpedoes,Full Spend Ahead!”

There is a nice quote from President Grover Cleveland.

“It is a plain dictate of honesty and good government that public expenditures should be limited by public necessity, and that this should be measured by the rules of strict economy.”

Pity the TPPF does not embrace another view of the the great Grover. as he wrote on the Texas Seed Bill Veto of 1887.

I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution, and I do not believe that the power and duty of the general government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit. A prevalent tendency to disregard the limited mission of this power and duty should, I think, be steadfastly resisted, to the end that the lesson should be constantly enforced that, though the people support the government, the government should not support the people.
