To the Editor,
Jail overcrowding is the giant issue in the race for 9th District Court Judge. I am very disappointed that Ms. Bihm, in her answer to your questionnaire on the County Citizen website, has attempted to blame overcrowding on law enforcement, the Legislature, and Commissioners Court, i.e., anyone else other than her friends who are district judges.
In Montgomery County, overcrowding in our Jail is largely a result of the inefficient manner in which our courts are moving their dockets. Although the Office of Court Administration refuses to release the statistics – likely out of embarrassment – I have obtained some of them and intend to obtain them all. The courts are not moving cases to trial speedily as the Constitution and Texas law require.
It’s time for our community to unify behind speedy and fair law enforcement, judges who follow the law, and streets that are safe for our children, their parents, and their grandparents. That’s why we came to this beautiful place and that’s why we need to fight to protect our County.
Sincerely,
Eric Yollick
Candidate for District Judge, 9th Judicial District
