TWO VOTE MUD ELECTION OVERTURNED FOR MISCOUNTING ONE VOTE : CALLS FOR PAPER BALLOT

Note to Montgomery County Commissioners : Hays County has very generous Public comment time.

While most voters have been distracted with the Presidential election and protests, a very concerning issue has slipped by right under the noses of almost every citizen in Hays County. In the November 2016 election, there was an election in Hays County relating to the new Anthem subdivision (near Kyle, Texas). On the ballot were 5 Board of Director positions and bond propositions worth several hundred million dollars. The propositions failed, but the election was overturned.

Why was the election overturned?

According to the judgment in the lawsuit filed to overturn the election, only one half of the votes were counted in this election, and the vote which was counted, was counted incorrectly.

Typically, it is very difficult for an error or voter fraud to be caught by citizens, the main reason being that there is no paper trail and no real recourse for voters to actually determine whether or not their votes are being counted or counted correctly.

The sole reason this issue was caught is because there were only two voters who were eligible to vote in this election. Both offered testimony stating that they both voted in favor of the bonds. Instead, the election results showed that there was only one voter who voted in that election, and that the sole voter cast their ballot against the propositions.

As many of us saw during the county wide bond election in November, the Hays County government is no stranger to pushing the envelope when it comes to the rule of law and integrity.

So, knowing what we know, how many of our votes aren’t being counted in Hays County?

What’s the solution? Paper ballots would be a good start.
