Voting starts tomorrow – Monday April 27 – May 5th
The main vote is will county voters add $350M debt for road maintenance and very few extra lanes
Please pass this on to your friends and co-workers
I am voting NO with the road bond. Here are my reasons…
1. This is more a maintenance bond than a road expansion bond – in Magnolia and surrounding area, none of the clogged roads are getting extra lanes from this bond (2978, 1488, 1774), since these are state roads which is already in the works from TxDot state funds.
2. The roads that badly need more lanes added can be done with county money and do not need a $350 M road bond.
3. The interest and bond costs will be at least $50M and could be as high as $350M. There is a better way.
4. The promoters of the bond are not being honest with the details. They are wrong when they say…
a. This is no tax increase – the truth is taxes will increase with this debt
b. The developers are paying for the road – the truth is the devil is in the details and they are not providing the details
c. This will keep the county moving – the truth is only a few areas will be helped and there is enough tax revenue to handle this without all this debt
d. If the May vote is voted down the county will not get road improvements for 2-3 years – the truth is either this is not true, or it is true for a reason they do not wish to be transparent about, because there has not been a reason given – to me this is fear mongering
The Woodlands are unhappy because traffic through their town will drastically increase. The bond will probably fail because of this issue. I plan to vote against the bond if the Woodlands Parkway extension is removed for the above reasons.
I am disappointed in Commissioner Charlie Riley actions on this road bond for these reasons… (and I plan to go talk to him about these issues)…
1. He is saying the points above in #4 ( I have heard him say them)
2. He said he does not know the following about the bond…
a. The expected interest rate
b. If the loans are fixed or adjustable
c. How many years the loans are for
d. To me this is unacceptable
