Some people have no conscience when it comes to spending other people’s money. Thankfully we have John McMullan running against the tide on developer conceived transportation dreams. The Woodlands is definitely run like a private business most of the time with no concern for the proper role of government. I think the Woodlands Development Company should be able to run their interests any way they please. if they want to be Disneyland, then great,
Put up gates and charge admission to the mall and the rainbow fountain and the AMTRAK style water taxis and everything they own. Order a thousand men on horseback to parade around the mall except on very cold days and extreme heat when the horses don’t do well.
With their own private funds of course.
The latest story tells us about John McMullan who does have a conscience that is not seared by the desire to be loved by the power brokers who think we are just a source of revenue for their business goals.
We read the following comments of John McMullan questioning yet another tiring presentation from a bloated tax feeder related to a public expense for private purposes.
“If one of the stated goals is to connect customers with shopping and entertainment areas, why shouldn’t the development company, the hotels, and the retailers pay for it,” McMullan said, interrupting a presentation by Chris LaRue, transit program manager with the township.
And then consider the ultimately refreshing assault on plunder.
“This is where I disagree with everyone. We are operating under the idea of how to make the service better but we should be doing is discussing if we want the service at all,” he said noting The Woodlands is seeing a decline in sales tax and the board should be cautious of that. “I think if you were to ask people of The Woodlands they would rather see North Shore Park fixed instead of have money spent on this trolley system that I continue to assert is a taxpayer subsidy to The Woodlands Development Company.”
What a tremendous example of bravery and stewardship.
Thank you Mr. McMullan.
