New Conroe City Councilman Duane Ham, best know for forming the reactionary Tea Party known as TCTPC and dubbed as FAKE is turning in a very creditable confrontational challenge to proposed rate increases from the much despised SJRA / LSGCD combination.
Rather than sit back and take what SJRA is dishing out we read –
The Conroe City Council will meet for a special session Tuesday to take a stand against a looming water rate increase from the San Jacinto River Authority expected to go into effect Sept. 1.
The same Courier Article quotes Ham –
Councilman Duane Ham, who was vocal about addressing the water rates during his campaign for Position 1, said the GRP is bad for residents.
“We are doing this because taxpayers don’t deserve this high water rates,” Ham said of the resolutions the council will consider. “The only way to do this is to act now. They are asking for an 18 cent hike starting in September and they are just charging too much money.”
And my personal favorite quote –
However, Ham has maintained that the GRP is based on “junk science.”
“We don’t have a water problem,” Ham said. “The water rates are out of control and we’ve got to put a stop to it.”
From the courier – “The SJRA finished construction of a pipeline in late 2015 as part of its $500 million Groundwater Reduction Plan that was put in place to ensure entities meet the LSGCD’s mandate to reduce groundwater consumption by 30 percent by Jan. 1, 2016. The project includes a surface-water treatment plant at the Lake Conroe dam, 55 miles of treated water transmission pipelines and piping, metering and blending facilities at each of the surface-water delivery points.”
Congratulations to Ham, who as far as we know has acted without engaging in secret email negotiations.
Ham is setting a good example for all water related entities in the county.
