When Real Estate Analyst and podcaster Travis Spencer protested his property taxes this week he encountered more resistance than he expected.
Spencer is know for his lively youtube podcast REAL ESTATE MINDSET and decided to film his own ARB hearing July 15 where Spencer’s approach is to present his value appeal case while emphasizing details of the property Texas tax code that reference Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice ( USPAP) . Travis argues Texas appraisal district ignore those standards in violation of Texas law.
We never quite get to learn if and how the ARB board addresses the USPAP standards question.
Both sides are to present their case in the hearing however Spencer, slightly flustered appears on the video to not be allowed to present his case uninterrupted, with both sides talking over one another.
In the most recent hearing, eventually ARB Chairman Steve Friends, noticeably agitated enters the hearing to referee the proceedings while Spencer continues to speak. Then abruptly ends the hearing.
As they exit together via the passageway Spencer pans his camera across Friends who appears to suddenly slap the camera away and striking Spencer in the process.
Conroe PD attend and while questioning Spencer, Friends is seen continuing to interject uninvited comments to the discussion.
At first law enforcement were not convinced that Friends had actually struck Spencer but on further review they apparently decided the video evidence was enough to cite Friends with assault. Spencer was trespassed by MCAD for what amounts to being difficult.
Two Officers attended the scene, Officer Trevino on duty at MCAD that day and Conroe PD Officer Filetti responding to 911. Both officers performed with unquestionable professionalism and courtesy throughout.
There are three videos, the last one is from another hearing that ran out of time but in which Spencer did prevail. the two new videos or a series on the July 15th incident.
We contacted CPD for confirmation and MCAD for comments and will update as we learn more.
