It was April 12, 2012 that Texas Rep James Keffer and former Rep Vicki Truitt filed ethics complaints against Michael Quinn Sullivan alleging he had failed to register as a lobbyist. Sullivan leads an effective privately funded taxpayer advocacy group known as Empower Texans. He doesn’t take government money, he doesn’t seek political favors and he doesn’t help others to do that either.
He presses elected officials and others to spend less and reduce the size of government.
Sometimes you can tell who the Philistines are and some times you can’t, or as the case with King David you are fighting for your life against a tyrant and your allies who enjoy your support when they get it are not completely reliable when things get tough. They turn out to be Philistines.
Sullivan is getting mauled in the press and in real life in the courts. Ken Paxton is even taking up for the Texas Ethics Commission against Sullivan. Sullivan’s battle against the phony ethics commission has been sent back to Travis County.
Empower Texans rewards Legislators and others who work to defend private property and liberty of Texans by publicly naming them TAXPAYER CHAMPIONS. There are lists. There are press releases. The recipients are proud, PROUD to feature the Taxpayer Champion accolade on their own websites, e.g. Dennis Bonnen Brandon Creighton (appreciated )Konni Burton (thrilled ) Don Huffines ( honored )here’s a list from 2011.
Whats so bad about the TEC and it’s members is not that they are leaning left or leaning right but that they are leaning totalitarian. George Orwell denied that his 1984 was directed at a particular party. Before his death he said “totalitarian ideas have taken root in the minds of intellectuals everywhere, and I have tried to draw these ideas out to their logical consequences.”
Sullivan’s problem is that he is not a member of Government party or joining forces with the Crony team. If he will just confess that Big Brother is Doubleplus Good then everything will be OK.
Here is an example.
In 2007 Truitt and 2009 Keffer had come under the scrutiny of the TEC for a range of misdeeds in campaign finance reporting. They were sanctioned with a civil penalty of $5300.00 and $3200.00 respectively. Both were allowed to pay the fines out of campaign finance funds. They both signed agreements to keep TEC rules in the future.
In 2012 the pair filed a complaint against Sullivan.
Then in 2012 complaints were filed again against Truitt and Keffer for similar infractions as in 2007 and 2009. This time around they were sanctioned $500.00 & $400.00 each. Repeat offenders.
The TEC is a toothless tiger when it comes to policing their own but if you dare to speak againts the government party and expose their wanton ways then you become a target.
So my question is this. Where are all the leaders who are speaking up publicly for Sullivan? They dearly love to tout public TAXPAYER CHAMPION endorsements but fail to take up for the real champion. Where are the t-party types? Who among his 83431 facebook friends will speak up? Where are the public challenges and press releases condemning victimization of Sullivan? I searched, I can’t find any. Maybe I am wrong. send them to me.
Otherwise, I think we have more Philistines in the ranks than we realize.
