Texas agencies have paid more than $270 million in bonuses to about 78,000 people since Fiscal Year 2009, according to payment data that the American-Statesman obtained through the Texas Public Information Act. An analysis of 133,000 payments by 111 state agencies found wide variations in how bonuses are distributed by Texas officials, some of whom awarded hefty bonuses to political allies and top managers.
