Abbott Talks Same Sex Marriage at National Prayer Breakfast

From NEWS RADIO 1200 WOAI San Antonio
Governor Abbott told of how prayer helped him get through the 1984 accident that left him in a wheelchair for life when he delivered the major address to the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The National Catholic Prayer Breakfast was established in 2004 by Pope John Paul II.
“Confined to a hospital for months, I prayed deeply, always hoping and praying for the best,” Abbott said.
He told the attendees that religious liberty is being tested today, ‘as some try to silence the faithful and purge God from the public square.’
“Today we see this assault on faith continuing across our country,” Abbott said. “We see this with the Catholic Little Sisters of the Poor being forced to choose between a law imposed by the government or following the law of their Lord.”
Abbott, who tweeted yesterday that he supports a controversial bill that would allow pastors and churches to ‘opt out’ of participating in same sex marriage, told the group that the same sex marriage issue is similar.
“The legal assault on marriage defined by God,” he said. “But we know that God’s law cannot be undone by man’s law.”
Abbott said God has ‘given us a road map to answer our prayers about religious liberty.’
“In Proverbs 29:2, it says, ‘when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice. But when the wicked rule the people suffer.’ God told us long ago that we need righteous leaders. So as we pray today and every day we should pray that God’s guidance in Proverbs be fulfilled and that we be blesses with righteous leaders.”
