Montgomery County Transparency Stars

Time to recognize the best local government agencies in the county for following recommendation of the Texas Comptroller  in “providing clear and meaningful financial information through documents, visualizations and other formats”. Its great to learn about and to report six local government entities that meet or exceed the standards set by the Comptroller and their achieving recognition in the Transparency Stars program.

For MCTXonline the entry level for basic transparency

is easy access to elected officials, check registers online — the  six entities exceeded that by complying at least with the requirements for Traditional Finances category –

  1. Expenditures as total and per capita, per student or per user as applicable.
  2. Revenues from all entity funds expressed as total and per capita, per student or per user as applicable.
  3. Total full-time equivalent positions for all personnel.
  4. Revenues from property taxes as total and per capita, per student or per user as applicable.
  5. Revenues from sales taxes as total and per capita, per student or per user as applicable.

We commend all six for submitting there organization to the basic level of open scrutiny taxpayers deserve. Special mention here to City of Shenandoah for ease of access, we had minimum trouble finding the page and it was also easy to read and digest.  Other were a mixed bag for findability however, while all did post contact information for elected officials two stood out for furnishing cell phone contact for electeds. These were Shenandoah and MCDH.

The public should access these resources and explore them.

Congratulations.
